A direct-drive base puts loads into the rig that profile chassis were never drawn for. This is what we did about it.

The direct-drive load-path problem

If you have upgraded to direct drive, you already know the feeling: the base is fine, but under load the rig moves. A hard kerb strike, a sudden correction, peak torque through a fast direction change — and you feel the structure give a fraction before the force reaches you. That movement is deflection. It is not cosmetic. Every millimetre the chassis flexes is feedback the base generated that you never received cleanly — softened, delayed, smeared.

Most consumer and profile rigs are assembled from extruded aluminium section bolted at the corners. Profile is convenient, adjustable, and cheap to source. What it is not is drawn for a specific load path. The joints carry load they were not designed around, and the result is the flex you can feel but cannot tune out — because it is in the structure, not the settings.

eSport Simulation approached the problem from first principles. Not "how do we bolt a rig together," but "what does the load path of a direct-drive system actually demand of the structure, and what should the geometry be to carry it." The result is a set of bespoke structural components — each one designed for its specific role in the platform, documented to ASME standard before any metal was cut.

Control support

The control support is an integral component, not a bracket added afterward. The steering column angle and the mounting interface were resolved as part of the geometry — the relationship between where your hands sit and where the forces transfer was a design decision, not an adjustment you work around.

Floor support

The floor support sets the pedal plate position relative to the wheel and seat. Pedals generate the highest sustained loads in the rig — a load cell brake pushes back hard — so where and how the pedal plate mounts is a structural decision, not a convenience one.
